(+)-cis,trans-Abscisic acid has?established roles in the regulation of transpiration, stress responses, seed germination and embryogenesis. It appears to act as a signal of reduced water availability , and most effects of ABA seem to be adaptive responses that promote water conservation in plants by reducing water losses and slowing growth.
The compound is a plant growth regulator which has high-affinity s for abscisic acid on the plasmalemma of Vicia faba guard cells. (+)-cis,trans-Abscisic acid has been involved in several physiological mechanisms including seed dormancy, leaf abscission, stomatal movement, and plant stress responses. Through complex interactions with several intracellular signaling systems, the Abscisic isomer can regulate the expression of hundreds of plant genes.
