Cefsulodin Sodium Salt is a third generation cephalosporin antibiotic. Utilized in microbiology in CIN ( Cefsulodin-Irgasan-Novobiocin) Agar, it is used for the selective isolation of Yersinia enterocolitic. Also Cefsulodin chocolate blood agar is a selective medium for the recovery of Haemophilus influenzae from the respiratory secretions of patients with cystic fibrosis. CIN agar was first described by Schiemann as an alternative to MacConkey Agar and other commonly used media for isolation of Yersinia enterocolitica, a causative agent of gasteroenteritis.?Cefsulodin has an important role in water testing where it is used as a contamination control inhibiting growth of unwanted bacteria other than E.Coli. Cefsulodin is an antibiotic used by the water and dairy industries to test for e.coli contamination.
