Perylene屬于PAH（polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon，多環(huán)芳烴）包含5個稠環(huán)。其分子的平面性造成了它的穩(wěn)定性，衍生物的低溶解性以及強烈的熒光性。
Perylene擁有強烈的綠色熒光，很好的耐光性，以及量子產(chǎn)率的統(tǒng)一性。這使得這個PAH結構分子*有希望用于新的分子探針的設計，功能材料，以及分子器件。
該分子包含用于點擊化學的炔烴基團，可以用于像Sonogashira反應一樣的偶聯(lián)反應。
